  • John Bland and Michael Hagel have put together a really sweet app for pocket pc. It uses the MXNA web service to allow you to keep up with the latest news and developments from the community from just about anywhere.

You can view the app in action, as well as download it from here.

  • I am going to be doing a quick mini-speaking tour of Northern Europe starting next week. I will be speaking at a number of user group meetings as well as the FlashForum conference in Dusseldorf, Germany.

I will be talking about Macromedia’s roadmap and vision for the Flash Platform and ecosystem. Who knows, maybe I will be able to give some sneak peaks of a few things?

Here are the dates and info:

  • I usually walk to work every morning. The 2.5 mile trek takes me from the Castro / Noe Valley through the Mission District and into South of Market (SOMA) in San Francisco.

I have uploaded a photo journal of my walk to work this morning, which you can below.

  • I read all of my e-mail as plain text. Because of this, a lot of URLs sent in e-mails get broken between lines (basically, they have a line return added inside the URL). If I want to view the URL I have to do the following:

    1. Copy both lines of URL
    2. Open a text editor (I use EditPlus)
    3. Paste the broken URL
    4. Remove the Line return
    5. Copy the URL
    6. Open my browser
    7. Paste the URL into my browser
    8. View the URL

Do this about 10 times a day, and it gets to be a real pain. So, I created a simple program that does most of this work. The program is called Stripper, and it basically removes the whitespace from any content placed on the whiteboard.

  • Wow. A couple of people have already taken the code for the MXNA Feed Scroller and improved upon it.

Peter Elst turned it into a ScreenSaver.

Eric Dolecki updated it with a new look.

    Hmmm…. I think I see a contest coming on…. :)

  • This may be obvious to most people, but it was a revelation to me. I listen to the BBC’s World Today News on my way to work (a 45 minute walk). It is an hour long MP3, and thus if for some reason I have to stop the MP3, I have to restart it from the beginning.

However, yesterday, I accidentally discovered that you can fast-forward through songs / content on the iPod. While the song is playing, just click the middle button on the iPod. This will change the bar on the bottom to a diamond, and now you can use the scroll-wheel to fast-forward or rewind through the song. Just click the middle button again to switch the bar back to value control.

  • I recently moved moved offices, and am now sitting with the Flash team. One thing I noticed was that we have a nice 42″ Plasma screens, which was not being used. So, I decided to put together a simple application that would make it easy to help keep myself and the Flash team up with the latest news and information from the Flash community.

The application I created, MXNA Feed Scroller (original name, heh?), is a Flash based, fullscreen standalone application that displays information on the last 15 weblog posts from the Flash community. It is updated every 15 minutes. It gets its information from the MXNA web service API and uses the MXNA ActionScript 2 Library.
