I am sorry for the lack of updates recently. I have been traveling a lot for work, and busy wrapping up the next DevNet Resource Kit.
Anyways, I am going to be heading up to Toronto next week for FlashInTheCan. It is really looking likes it is going to be a great conference. If you are there, make sure to stop me and say hi.
I will be making some posts from the conference.
There have been a couple of updates to Macromedia.com over the past week or two.
First, we have released a new Under the Hood report. This one discusses the steps we took to improve the Flash performance on the site.
Sean Corfield also posted some info about the new HTML based login for the forums.
Finally, Sean also wrote the first Under the Hood report, discussing the architecture of the site.
Have you noticed that the longer you work on your project, the larger your FLA file gets (even though you may remove items from the FLA)? The Flash authoring environment saves new data by appending it to the end of the FLA. If you remove something from the Flash movie (lets say you delete a Movie Clip), then Flash will just write a note in the FLA to not use that asset anymore. However, it is still contained within the FLA.
We are making some DNS changes for the weblog server, so the site may not be reachable for a period of time.
If everything goes well, then there should not be any problems.
Christian Cantrell has posted his slides for his FlashForward presentation on Flash, Flash Remoting and ColdFusion MX integration (which some discussion of RSS thrown in).
You can view the slides here.
Bruce Epstein has posted some summaries of each day of last months FlashForward conference in San Francisco. Of particular interest was his summary of Tim O’Reilly’s session titled “Watching Alpha Geeks”.
You can view additional coverage in my FlashForward section.
We have been thinking about what Flash articles, content and topics we should feature for the Macromedia DevNet Center. This conveniently, leads to the question of the day:
What Flash content, topics and articles do you want to see on the Macromedia DevNet Center?
Post your thoughts in the comments…
(or any other Macromedia beta).
Recently, I have been receiving a lot of emails about how to apply to various Macromedia betas. It is actually pretty easy. Just point your browser to:

and submit your information based on the directions on the webpage.
I have uploaded some pictures from last weeks FlashForward. They include a few new images of Macromedia Central, as well as a sneak of one of the apps included on DRK 3.

Kevin Talking about the new Macromedia website
We have launched a new Macromedia DevNet Center RSS feed. We still have the old feed, but it should be considered deprecated. If you are using the old feed you should switch over to the new RSS feed.
The new feed is an RSS 1.0 feed, and has a lot more information than the old feed.
You can view the feed here:
http://www.macromedia.com/go/devnet_rss
You can find more information on the feeds here.
Btw, if you are curious, we use the RSSify application which will be available on DRK 3 to create the feed.
