Adobe AIR for Linux Beta is live
We have just posted an update of the pre-release version of Adobe AIR for Linux. This version is a beta (previous version was an Alpha) and adds support for a ton of new AIR features (and fixes a lot of bugs). You can find all of the details in the release notes.
You can find more information, as well as download the bits from the Adobe AIR for Linux Beta labs page.

Mike, I have been trying to install the latest build for an hour on my Ubuntu machine. I was able to install the alpha just fine (back when it was released), but this one just refuses to finish the installation. I have copied the bin to /opt/, ran the isntaller as root, quit Firefox, and still get the very frustrating “contact your administration” error! I’m logged in as root, can’t you tell that _I AM_ the administrator? The forums have nothing recent about this, can you please forward this to someone who could help? I really want to support AIR, but sometimes it’s not so easy…
TIA,
Peldi

Thanks for this new release. I will test my application on this new version of Air. In case of issues I will let you, and the team, know.

You would require to uninstall the alpha version of AIR(using dpkg or rpm command) before you install the beta. It doesn’t update your existing runtime.

Thanks for continuing to work with the Linux community.
I know it’s not that easy sometimes.
Any word on when AIR will have the ability to use external executables (without your wrapper solution)?

It has been quite a while since I have felt the need to bitch and moan about Adobe ignoring Linux in regards to Flash/Flex/AIR! We may be a little behind, but the ongoing effort is obvious. Kudos to the Linux team.
[Now, if we could just get that design view stuff worked out in Flex Builder! ;) ]

I can confirm that I have exactly the same problem as Peldi installing AIR on Ubuntu…

Sorry, didn’t read all reactions yet… :-)
The solution Eduard gave works 100% perfectly!
Thanks!

I tested Posty on (ubuntu 8.04) and it works fine. Also some beta tester reported no issue in running Posty on the same distro. Hope this helps.
