Mike, apologies for the most broad question – but would you see this as the best way for an air application to communicate with a command line based application? Are there other methods (built in or additional libraries) that will allow an air app to do the same thing?

I was under the impression that AIR applications were not allowed to bypass the native AIR Runtime installation routine, yet the CommandProxy demo promotes doing that.

Where exactly do things stand as far as custom installers are concerned?

On OS X, I think it possible to call an applescript with
/usr/bin/osascript myscript.scpt
But it is possible to get the response or have an applescript talk to air e.g tell application “Air” ?
