New Adobe AIR Book Available for Download
Danny Dura, Kevin Hoyt and myself have been working on a new Adobe AIR book, which has just been published. The book, which is published by O’Reilly, is titled Adobe Integrated Runtime for JavaScript Developers Pocketguide and provides an introduction to Adobe AIR, targeted at HTML and JavaScript developers.
Not only can you buy it from Amazon, but Ajaxian.com has posted the entire book online for download.
The book is released under a creative commons license, and we will also be posting it on labs for download.
Btw, we plan to update the Adobe Flex for Developers Pocketguide for the 1.0 release of Adobe AIR.

I see that the book is Creative Commons licensed; where can I download the ’source’ for the book? the link provided within the book itself (http://www.adobe.com/go/airjavascriptpocketguide) does not seem to work.
I noticed many small typos and errors while I was printing the book and I’d like to fix them.

An excerpt from the review:
“….Frankly I have not played with all the examples, just a handful; however, I found them to be useful. I must admit that the very first example “Hello World†was a bit frustrating to deal with, as the sample contained some typo. As we all know Adobe AIR was formerly known as Apollo, it seems that this sample was half-converted to the new naming convention. It would have saved an hour of my time troubleshooting and hunting through the forum if “ApolloHelloWorld.html†would have been mentioned as “AIRHelloWorld.html†on page 30. Anyway, I have noted it here just in case someone else needs it. Besides, the typo I think the book has also been silent on other features of a desktop application such as threading, inter-process communication or ability to access registry settings. I am thinking none of these are supported…..â€

fyi: webdvl outfit here already receiving undeniable amount of requests from clients to pull Adobe technologies or cease any future Adobe technological implementations due to zero iphone support as well as perceptions (albeit somewhat misinterpreted) surrounding YouTube adoption of H.264.
While the latter has proved to be relatively easy to explain to clients so they concede a slight understanding, the Apple thing isn’t as easy to counter-claim. While logically we see this as something to contact Apple in regards, (and we have contacted Apple and presented our thoughts & sentiments), we feel that there is some semblance of truth to the notion that Adobe has alienated the Mac sector over recent years.
We know Adobe PR would never allow anyone to admit to it even if there was a tussle behind the scenes, nevertheless we wanted to bring this matter of fact info to Adobe just in case the head’s up on the idea might have even the slightest positive impact on any possible, underlying influences.
There are most likely a thousand other reasons influencing Apple’s decisions and the iPhone could roll out Flash/Flex/AIR support tomorrow. Nevertheless we are finding this “perception” to be impacting our Adobe offerings and hence the need to share our recent experiences.

Hi Mike,
In order to keep working with AIR in the Flexbuilder 3 beta I decided to buy FlexBuilder 2 when the demo expired last week. But it just occurred to me that as a result I’ll need to purchase the upgrade too once FlexBuilder 3 moves out of beta. So I would like to recommend that Adobe offer a free upgrade all new buyers to FlexBuilder 3 –provided they purchased Flexbuilder 2 after the Beta was released. I think you’ll find that this offers a greater incentive to developers to try the product out beyond the 30 demo expiration period.

Where can I get more information about the “O’Reilly Pocketguide to help JavaScript” – I’m learning C# and I’m trying to implement a few Ajax codes to get my software more friendly?
